Journal Entry Sim City #5(Thermal Energy)
May 14, 2008
Well to make the Thermal Energy people called coal hoppers crush the coal. Then, they dump the coal into a big bin to make it in to powder and the coal powder gets put in the boilers. The boilers have water in it so they put the coal in the boilers and the coal catches on fire. Then the water in the boilers changes to steam. When the coal burns it turns into gases such as like carbon and ash. All the gases and the lighter ash go up in a vent called electrostatic precipitators. Which then the lighter ash is removed and only the gases go into the air. The steam that was in the boilers is now in the turbines moving in great speed. The steam gets out of the pipe which causes the turbine to move faster. Then a metal shaft which keeps the turbine and generator together gets the turbines energy and that causes an electro-magnetic to turn inside wire coils. The spinning magnet makes electricity. Then, the steam leaves the turbine and goes through a condensers which turns it back to water. The water is removed from the plant after going through the condenser. Lastly, the electricity voltage is increased and then transmission lines carry the electricity to cities.

In my Milwaukee area the main zoning is residential. Also,I have noticed that mainly elders live by me so it is a quiet neighborhood. I also have Wilson Park across the street from my neighborhood. I have two schools Lowell, Morgandale and St.Romans by me. I do have a little bit of business zoning by me like gas stations.

I think my city and Laguna Beach have more to contrast then to compare. One of the things that are the same about Laguna Beach and my city is that they both have grids. Another thing that is the same is that both are by a source of water. The last thing that I can see is that they both have a lot of green surrounding them. One of the things that are different about my city and Laguna Beach is that Laguna Beach is more residential and my city is a mix of different things. Another thing that is different is that Laguna Beach is surrounded by hills and my city is just flat land. The last thing that I think that is different is that Laguna Beach is more suburb-type and my city is more like a city.

Three cities that have a grid Pattern: Manhattan,Milwaukee,Los Angeles
Three cities that don’t follow: Boston,Paris,Johannesburg.
Today on Sim City I built a new city.I built some roads and put in some zoning. At first I was doing good gaining Money. Then, I started to lose money rapidly. In the end I started gaining my money back by lowering taxes once and then raising taxes again. So, i would say my city is doing good so far and I kind of like it.
